Bedel Tiscareno was born in North Las Vegas, Nevada. He is a first generation Mexican – American. At the age of thirteen he began to show an interest in the arts that later developed into a passion. He went on to study visual art at the Otis/Parsons School of Art and Design in Los Angeles, California and later at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington. In 1997 Bedel Tiscareno moved to New York City to attend The School of Visual Arts.
Tiscareno has been awarded two grants (2004 Premier Grant, 2005 Original Work Grant) from the Council on the Arts & Humanities for Staten Island. In 2005 he was awarded a Fellowship from the Center for Emerging Visual Artists, Career Development Program based in Philadelphia, PA. His solo exhibitions, and group shows have been met with favorable reviews. Some highlights from his exhibition history have been a solo show at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center, two solo shows at Vlepo Gallery on Staten Island, and a group show at the Pamela Auchincloss Project Space in Manhattan.
Tiscareno’s work is best known for its compelling compositions wherein traditional figuration is deconstructed along a system of semiotics. He has developed a signature style wherein method becomes narrative and multiplicity becomes the plot. Tiscareno has exhibited on an international level. His works are represented in private collections and his images have been featured in several publications. Bedel Tiscareno currently lives and works in New York City.
